"Tipsy Fudge Cake"

Some things are just too cool!

I found this interesting little cake tin at a local thrift store the other day and just had to get it.
It was 50 cents!

I had never heard of a Tipsy Fudge Cake before and a quick Google listed a recipe that I must admit sounds pretty good and is made up of ingredients similar to caffenol!

Well, it has instant coffee in it...that's honestly where the similarites begin and end...but it did make me smile when I read the recipe.

One of the recipes I found is here: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/recipes/detail/jack-daniels-tipsy-fudge-cake

As you can see it's got all the major food groups covered.
Sugar, Jack Daniels, Coffee and Chocolate!

Enough so that I'm thinking it would give you a pretty good buzz if you ate it warm with some vanilla ice cream.

Dessert and Happy Hour go together right?

Anyway, I drilled a pinhole in the tin and loaded it with paper and tested it today on my favorite tree model up the road.

This was a 60 second exposure on Ilford IV RC multigrade paper.

I quickly mixed up some caffenol and then "sloshed" it around for about 7 minutes.

It's not perfect, but perfection is not what pinhole, and finding random tin cans in thrift stores to make a camera is all about.  It's about getting back to basics and having fun!

"Burning Atlantis"

Another photo from my Worldwide Pinhole Photo Day walkabout at the Rio Grande Zoo.

This one was made with a little matchbox camera and some expired 35mm film.

The (Windy) Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Yes indeed!
Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day was a breezy one.
But not too breezy!!!

The day turned out great and as planned we went to the Rio Grande Zoo and made an afternoon of it!

We met Joe at the front gate and then spent the next couple of hours moseying along making pinhole photos of the flora and fauna.  A few of the animals were on leave for the winter and were nowhere to be seen.

I was hoping for some pinhole photos of the tortoises, (slow moving and perfect pinhole subjects) but they were on vacation...perhaps Cancun?  the sign didn't say.

Most animals move a round a lot or just aren't that interested in posing for minutes at a time so I only came away with one exposed sheet of 4 x 5, 1 roll of 35mm in a matchbox pinhole camera and 1 roll of 120 shot in a 3D printed pinhole camera.  I made 7 shots with my pinhole Holga, so that's not a whole lot of film...

The photo below was made with an Illy coffee tin and a sheet of 4x5 black and white film.

It's the only one I've developed so far so keep checking back during the week and I'll get some more posted as they are developed.

This nice Zebra obliged my lengthy pinhole exposure and remained still for about 10 seconds.
I say "about" since I don't meter and I don't count seconds.

I just pretend to be the emulsion and when I think enough photons have excited the emulsion and will leave an image, I stop the exposure.  The light was come and go, and the Sun was hit or miss, but it made the day more interesting and I like interesting!

The Zebra just stood against the light breeze and mostly ignored us.

I hope everyone enjoyed their pinhole day and I'm looking forward to your photos!!

Happy Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Hope it's great wherever you are!

I'm still going to the Rio Grande Zoo at 1 p.m. today!
With the brisk weather, the animals are likely to be frisky!
Hope to see you ...
Becky

This is "sew" cool!

Today at lunchtime I went into a thrift store and lo and behold...there was a pinhole camera stting on the shelf!

I mean, seriously...just look at it!

How could I possibly resist?

To make things even better, tucked inside was a tiny set of pinhole "drills".  It seems this can wants to be a pinhole camera!  And all for 2 dollars!!!

Today was my lucky day!

Thanks!

Thank you all for your visits and comments.  They mean a lot to  me and help me keep the spark going and the fire burning in creativity.

I am not sure why I can't comment back, so I'm checking my settings to see what's going on.

But please know I do read your comments and truly appreciate the time you take to  make them!

Thanks again!
Have a great pinhole day on Sunday!

Origami Photo Paper Pinhole Camera

That's a mouthful!
Origami Photo Paper Pinhole Camera!

But thanks to the wonderful wild world of the internet and online videos, I folded a pinhole camera out of photo paper.

If you are familiar with the age old art of Origami, then the rest is easy....and it really is.

I've probably folded a couple hundred cranes in my lifetime, so folding a little box using photo paper was a snap.  The hardest part was developing a wrinkly piece of photo paper in a tray.

But anyway, the video is here if you want to try it yourself.

Here's my first test shot of some trees in my backyard.

Don't forget World Pinhole Photography Day is this Sunday, April 27th.

I'll be hanging out with some friends at the Rio Grande Zoo beginning at 1 p.m. if you want to come join us!
